The Senate of the Faculty of Arts at the University of Maribor is the highest expert body of the Faculty of Arts at the University of Maribor. It is composed of professors and researchers.

The members of the Senate of the Faculty of Arts at the University of Maribor, who are professors or researchers, are elected by the Academic Assembly of the Faculty of Arts at the University of Maribor in such a way that all the academic disciplines as well as expert and study fields of the Faculty of Arts at the University of Maribor are equally and adequately represented.

Representatives of the student body, who must have the status of student, are also elected into the Senate of the Faculty of Arts at the University of Maribor, so that the Senate of the Faculty of Arts at the University of Maribor has at least one fifth student representatives. Student representative members of the Senate of the Faculty of Arts at the University of Maribor are elected by the Student Council of the Faculty of Arts at the University of Maribor.

The Dean manages the Senate meetings and is a member of the Senate.

The mandate period of the Senate of the Faculty of Arts at the University of Maribor members who are professors is four years, and the mandate period of the Senate of the Faculty of Arts at the University of Maribor members who are students is one year.

The Senate of the Faculty of Arts at the University of Maribor:

  • Takes part in the formation of expert grounds for forming a national program of higher education;
  • Adopts study and artistic programs, oversees their updates and takes part in forming interdisciplinary study programs;
  • Adopts programs for academic research;
  • Suggests a limitation of enrollment into undergraduate studies and discusses and adopts enrollment analysis;
  • Decides on questions regarding the execution of study and research programs, if it is so declared in the Statute;
  • Elects titles of professors, researchers and coworkers in higher education in accordance with definitions of this Statute, except for the title of Professor and the title of research advisor;
  • Names commissions for the composition of an expert report about the implementation of terms for the election of professors, researchers and coworkers in higher education;
  • Adopts the topic of a doctoral thesis and the commission that grades and is present at the defence of the doctoral thesis or the commission that may award the doctoral title;
  • Elects members of the Senate of the University of Maribor, with regard to their academic disciplines and fields of expertise, which are implemented by the members of the University;
  • Proposes candidates for dean and candidates for vicedeans to the Chancellor of the University of Maribor;
  • Oversees the foundation and organizational changes of chairs, institutions, centers and other organizational bodies of higher education;
  • Adopts proposals for employment of professors, researchers and other higher education coworkers and higher education coworkers for the execution of study and academicresearch programs;
  • Proposes contractual employment of private higher education teachers and guest teachers;
  • Debates the general acts of the University and gives proposals and points of view;
  • Executes the procedure of nostrification in accordance with the general statute of the University;
  • Gives proposals to award the titles of honorary PhD, honorary senator and the title » professor emeritus«;
  • Discusses proposals and initiatives of the Student Council of the University and the Student Council of the Faculty of Arts at the University of Maribor;
  • Executes other functions, if so stated in the Statute or the regulations.

For processing and investigations of questions and giving opinions, proposals and points of view regarding the field of work of the Senate, the latter has the following commissions:

  • The Commission for Student Affairs,
  • The Commission for Academic Research,
  • The Commission for Quality Evaluation,
  • The Habilitation Commission,
  • The Commission for International Cooperation.

Meetings of the Senate are open to the public.
