CENTER FOR INTERCULTURAL COOPERATION WITH COUNTRIES OF ASIA, AFRICA AND LATIN AMERICA
Mission of the Center for Intercultural Cooperation with Countries of Asia, Africa and Latin America: In times of globalization and more and more needed cooperation between civilizations, there is a need for intercultural cooperation also with countries from Asia, Africa and Latin America. Such cooperation is enhanced by numerous organizations and institutions. Even the set European goals stress cooperation with countries of the non-European space, culture of dialogue, respect of diversity, global justice, tolerance, security. The mission and vision of the center is the search for contact points between distanced cultures, connecting the global and the local, promotion of cohabitation and cooperation and by this an enrichtment of Slovenian science.
Educational activities: For the needs of intercultural cooperation with countries from Asia, Africa and Latin America, the Center organizes symposia, festivals of foreign cultures (music, dance, literature, fine arts, photos, film) with side events: worshops (culture, history, arts), roudn tables, exhibitions.
Basic purpose: overcoming intolerance freuqently caused by the unknown and xenophobia, establishment of tolerance and trust. Establishment of contacts with universities in Asia, Africa and Latin America.
Inclusion in the Erasmus Mundus Program or bilateral projects between states, establihment of institutionally supported partnerships between Faculty of Arts UM and similar universities in Asia, Africa and Latin America, organization of mobility of students and teachers of Faculty of Arts UM and similar universities in Asia, Africa and Latin America.
Research and development activities: Establishing institutionally supported partnerships, inclusion in bilateral projects between states, EU projects is a base for research and development activities of the centre. Based on student and teacher mobility, research will be enabled also at foreign universities.
The Center strives for a contributuon to more intensive transfer of research knowledge also to economies.
International activities and cooperation in European projects:
The Center is, as is also University of Maribor, striving for a wide internationalization within its structure and a higher recognizability in European and global higher education area, and the strong base for this is a developed and successful international cooperation. Thus, the Center, based on already signed bilateral agreements of University of Maribor, is continuing successful cooperation of UM with institutions in Asia, Africa and Latin America.
